Guess what? You know how I had a birthday earlier this month? It wasn't a major milestone, just a normal birthday. I am now thirty-six. I wasn't feeling particularly ancient, didn't even examine my eyes in the mirror for any new wrinkles. Anyway, I got my hair trimmed on Tuesday, and then went to work for Jerry at the clinic in the afternoon. He was checking out my new haircut, when guess what he found? You're right, three grey hairs. Or maybe they were white. Whatever. He pulled them out, thank you very much! Now why didn't my stylist tell me they were there?
So later that evening at supper we were telling the kids about my new greyness, when it occurred to me how significant it was that I had THREE grey hairs and I have THREE kids. Thinking maybe I'd make them feel guilty, I said "What do you think it means that I had THREE grey hairs?" the six-year old, without missing a beat, piped up "It means you're old, Mom!"
I asked for that, didn't I?

The next project...
I failed again. We ALWAYS forget to take "before" pictures of our remodeling projects. At least this time I remembered in time to get a "middle" picture. In case you haven't visited us yet, the kids have a pink bathroom. And I mean pink! Jerry removed the pink (cast iron) bathtub yesterday. Apparently they used to make them to last, as this thing could have withstood a nuclear attack, I think. Maybe the iron would have melted, I don't know. Anyway, it's been sledge-hammered to bits and is gone, never to be seen again ! I've included a couple of pictures of the other pink items that will soon disappear:
1) The pink toilet (can you see the pink walls too?)
2) and 3) the pink sink and countertop and you really can't see very well, but the tiled backsplash has little pink flowers, so that would be number 4.
5) the pink flowered lineoleum (Jerry's working on tearing that out as we speak).
This project should progress much more quickly than the last bathroom remodel we did. For one thing, we aren't moving any plumbing around, just replacing fixtures. Also, the shower is staying put so I don't have to agonize over shower doors like I did the last time. Really, I think that held us up more than anything else last winter. Come see us in a month or so, it should look totally different!

Warm Weather, Finally!
Maybe the ice storm was good for something after all..... the kids have spent the past two days outside making a fort out of the branches.
They've also spent a lot of time carving spears. Some of them are pretty sharp! We are prepared in case of enemy invasion at our house. You can all come stay with us if necessary. We can protect you!

American Idol
Did any of you watch this week??? We all LOVED the white-caped Simon fan at the end. We've been singing "You are my brother" all day!

It's My Birthday
I got a lovely bouquet of flowers from Jerry - just had to post the picture because they're so adorable! There are little sparkly beads strung along the spiky leaves, and the center of each daisy has an irridescent bead in it. So cool!
And here I am, at 36 years. This self-portrait thing is harder than it looks, by the way!
